Our history

Gitmans knitwear ltd is a family business of more than 30 years standing. The company was founded in 1969 by Paul Gitmans, as an Auckland based clothing retailer, with a reputation for good design, high quality and value to customers, particularly in knitwear.

By 1979 the company started its own dedicated knitwear manufacturing operation, supplying not only its own stores, but other retailers throughout the country. The success of that operation ultimately led to Gitmans closing its own retail businesses, and concentrating solely on manufacturing and supplying.

When import restrictions were lifted, the company, now managed by the next generation of the family (Jason Gitmans), gradually moved its manufacturing base overseas, where all of its product range is now manufactured. Gitmans is one of the major suppliers of knitwear in Australasia, built on a reputation for expertise, quality, service, and value.
